On Thursday, April 5, 2012, we celebrated our seventh annual Runathon, working in concert with the one and only, great New York Road Runners Foundation. This sunshine day turned out to be a day of glory, joy and laughter for one and all. Health and wellness with proper physical expertise proved to be a premium mission for success. Cliff Sperber, Vice President of Youth and Community Services to this vanguard New York Road Runners Foundation is the exceptional, maverick and prize winner in this era to a success story.
The day commenced with our energetic kiddos from a very early age to young teenagers. Excitement personified is the title that should be given to this event.
The Fire Department was at the event teaching children about fire safety. An FDNY fire truck was an educational trip with fire fighters present as the children climbed aboard and were shown the equipment inside. Giggles, happy faces and questions were the name of the game with educational material as a proven incentive.
The race was exciting and the aftermath of an innovative trophy showcased happiness hill for our young prize winners. Thereafter, a celebration of pizza from Famous Famiglia and Abitino’s, yogurts from Siggi’s, cookies from two great supermarkets: D’Agostino’s and Gristedes, plus other treats from the above supermarkets, Colgate’s Bright Smiles Bright Futures donated educational pamphlets and educational wellness favors, Champion Courier assisted us with a delivery, Staples, etc.
Thank you to our great renowned photographer, Jim Manley, for his exceptional work, the FDNY known as the best and great humanitarian fire fighter Michael Jones for his distribution of fire fighting pamphlets and favors to the kiddos, and the FDNY paramedic Michael P. Sullivan. Notwithstanding, Gherman Martinez, the NYRR coach who inspires children to enjoy a fabulous Runathon.
An enormous tribute and thank you to Cliff Sperber for his unending humanitarian endeavors
In essence, health, wellness and education are the catalyst to a child’s ultimate success.
