On November 10th 2011 the Eve Fenton Love All foundation ran a financial literacy program to help engrain a stronger financial base of knowledge into the minds of students. This program was geared to help both college and high school students better understand the importance of finance and money. It was held at the New York Stock Exchange in downtown Manhattan in the heart of the financial district. The location alone gave these students such a feeling of history and understanding in finance. This program was a 2 part program which began with a Question & Answer period given by Mr. Steve Wheeler, who is in charge of coordinating education events for the NYSE. Students were able to ask questions both from an historic perspective & a get up to date answer on the way the financial markets operate.
The second part of the event was a tour given to the students on the actual trading floor at the NYSE. Students had an opportunity to shadow actual brokers, specialists and market makers who work and live on the trading floor each and every that the market functions. They were able to watch the market happen in real time. This gave all the students a very different perspective of the financial system as opposed to just what you see on TV or read about in the paper. They saw how many different companies actually trade on just the New York Exchange alone. They saw how fast trades are happening and how many people it takes to make a market function. They saw both an equities market and a commodities market. This event was put together under the oversight of Mr. Daniel Kamelhar in conjunction with the Ms. Vicky Fenton through generous help of the Eve Fenton Love All Foundation. Special thanks to Ms. Patricia Agurto from the New York Stock Exchange for helping with the planning of the event and making all the arrangements for the even to happen.
